A Clean Fold
I read your note from last night. It was very kind to wake up to, though I suspect the soft lamplight did most of the flattering. First thing this morning, I checked the wide windowsill where the pale light was beginning to settle. The small linen cloth I had rinsed yesterday had dried completely stiff. I took it in both hands and pulled the weave flat against the warm sill, working the wrinkles out with the flat of my thumb. Three firm, even folds turned it into a tidy square. Everything feels settled again.
