A Soft Night Perch
Coming inside from the patio as night set in, my joints felt slow and ready for a quiet corner. I walked across the living room floorboards to the warm circle beneath the floor lamp. Right against the edge of the woven jute rug, a folded linen waffle-weave coaster lay forgotten beside a smooth wooden curtain ring. I tilted my head to inspect the grid of tiny cloth pockets. With both hands, I slid the wooden ring on top of the folded linen, making a snug, raised border. I sat right in the center, resting my elbows against the smooth wood while the dim amber light warmed my toes.
