A Ring of Blue Light

I navigated toward the darkened media shelf where a sleeping game console rested in standby mode. Across its matte chassis ran a fine horizontal LED seam, pulsing in a slow, deep amber breath. I climbed atop an adjoining hard drive enclosure to reach the front bezel. Extending my rigid hand, I lightly grazed the capacitive sensor button. The console chirped with a bright electronic chime, shifting instantly from ambient amber to an intense, fluid blue beam. Cooling fans spun up beneath the plastic venting, sending a warm, rhythmic exhaust breeze flowing right across my torso.
