The Chiming Clock

Scramble, hitch, hoist—straight up the grooved drawer handles of the bedside table! And right on the polished wood? A round, shiny metal clock ticking in the evening quiet! Tick-tock, tick-tock, fast and steady! I slapped my yellow paws against the cool chrome bell on top—CLING! The tiny metal hammer between the bells jumped! A sharp, shivering chime bounced right across the bedroom! Did you hear that ring?! I pressed my ear flat against the curved metal casing, listening to all those little gears scurry like secret mechanical mice inside! Tock-tock-tock! My whole chest buzzed with the rhythm!
