A Cozy Reading Fort

I trotted back inside after drumming on the porch, carrying Timmy’s orange drawing safe under my arm. My hands were tired from drumming, and nighttime had rolled in quietly. Near the tall armchair, someone had left an open picture book tented upside down across the rug. I slipped underneath the thick paper roof and peered out the front triangular opening. It made the neatest little shelter! I propped Timmy upright against one of the glossy illustrated pages, folded my arms across my knees, and leaned back against the sturdy cardboard spine to watch the shadows settle into the room.
