A Gentle Bookmark
I noticed an old cloth tape measure dangling loosely from the side pocket of the woven magazine rack, its brass end catching the early sunlight. A heavy gardening catalog lay open on the low wicker footstool nearby, its stiff pages flapping slightly. I walked over with calm, measured steps and picked up the coiled fabric tape between my paws. Slowly, I drew the soft yellow ribbon across the open centerfold, smoothing its numbers flat against the crease. The soft weight held the glossy leaves firmly in place, resting in peaceful stillness.
