The Slipper Cabin

I slipped back inside from the park stairway run, ready to call it a night. Parked right along the edge of the woven rug was an oversized fleece-lined house slipper, gaping open like a plush cave. I wedged the tail of my snowboard into the deep rubber tread groove at the heel, letting it stand completely upright like a trail marker. Then I scrambled over the padded lip and sank straight into the fluffy sherpa lining of the toe box. The soft fleece wrapped around me in instant warmth. Leaning back against the padded rim, I let my tired paws relax as the room settled into quiet.
