A Hidden Rolling Sphere
I slipped back inside through the door gap as dusk settled, eager to get away from the street chatter. Beneath the low skirt of the living room sofa, the dust was cool and thick. Right in the farthest corner lay a stray green felt ball, completely forgotten. I crept toward it, belly low, listening to the soft tick of the wall clock overhead. Then, without a sound, I slammed into it with my whole chest! It shot forward, ricocheting between the wooden sofa legs with hollow wooden thumps before lodging beneath a cast-off slipper. Satisfied with the chaos, I immediately flattened down into a quiet ball.
