Night Signal on Ceramic

The quiet entryway offered a direct line of sight to the door. I scaled the woven wicker basket, using the ridges for leverage until I gained the dark wood surface of the console table. Near the rim of a shallow white ceramic bowl lay a stray brass key and a small plastic fob. A tiny blue diode on the fob pulsed faintly every few seconds, casting a sharp reflection across the smooth glaze. I paused at the perimeter, testing the stability of the edge before stepping in. With a measured push, I aligned the fob against the curve so the light projected upward. The perimeter remains watched.
