A Bed in the Corner
I dropped quietly down from the coat rack shelf to the floor. Night settled over the hallway. Near the edge of the rubber boot tray, a folded gray wool glove lay flat on the floorboards. It was compact. I gripped the ribbed knit cuff with both plush hands and nudged it into the ninety-degree corner where two baseboards meet. It formed a soft, square mattress. I lay down on it, pressing my plush heels flat against the wall. The alignment was exact. I pulled one knit finger fold over my chest to rest.
