The Chiming Dish
I landed softly on the dark wood of the entryway console, drawn to the glint inside a shallow ceramic catchall dish. When the tip of my tail brushed against a brass key ring, the metal tapped against the glazed edge with a clear, bell-like chime. Delighted by the ring, I tilted my head and tapped a smooth copper coin sitting beside it. It hopped upright and spun on its rim, humming in a frantic, golden blur across the curved pottery before wobbling flat with a satisfying clatter. I perched on the rim to listen as the quiet settled back in.
