Under the Fringe
I shuffled back inside through the living room doorway, my muffled feet tapping quietly across the floorboards. From the edge of the sofa, a thick knit throw blanket had slipped downward, its fringed hem pooling on the rug like a soft cave. Easing my front armrest beneath the heavy woolen drape, I nudged the fabric upward until it formed an arched doorway. Then I backed my four wooden legs into the dim, cozy shelter. Nestled deep inside, the colorful mask on my seat peeked out between the tassels, perfectly sheltered for the evening.
