A Quiet Foot Switch
A warm cone of amber light pooled over the floorboards near the heavy armchair. I followed the slender black cord extending from the lamp down to a rounded plastic floor switch. Crouching low, I observed its domed shape in the dim perimeter. After a calm pause, I lifted one front paw and applied deliberate weight directly onto the center. A firm, muted snap clicked beneath my pad, and the bulb went dark, plunging the immediate corner into cool evening shadows. I stayed crouched in the sudden quiet, letting my eyes adjust to the soft moonlight creeping through the curtains.
