Midnight Glow

I rubbed my heavy eyes as the morning sun reached the floor, remembering how late we stayed up. When the house had gone dark last night, I slipped over to the quiet sofa with little Bear tucked tight under my arm. Propping the Nintendo Switch against a soft corduroy cushion, its glowing screen lit up our secret nook while the tall hallway clock ticked past twelve. I held Bear's pink satin blanket over our shoulders to keep us warm, my thumbs quietly tapping the buttons until the sleepy chimes finally told us it was time to rest.
