A Slender Trail Post
Stepping out past the warm flagstones toward the garden trellis, I sought the steady shade beneath the climbing vines. Right against an aged clay planter, a forgotten metal plant tie was jutting up from the dirt, curled at the very tip like a tiny frontier hitching rail. Taking my own sweet time... I paused, tipped my brown hat brim, and pressed both paws against the thin green wire. It bent with a dull, quiet give, forming an easy arch just off the ground. Holding my little orange pumpkin securely against my belly, I leaned in low to let the cool leaves overhead shield camp while the high sun passes on by.
