A Slanted Sunbeam
I noticed a brilliant square of morning light inching toward the base of the tall balcony door. Leaving my hidden spool tower in the shadows, I padded across the cool wooden boards to meet it. Right in the middle of the bright patch lay a forgotten, semi-transparent plastic clothespeg. I sat down quietly, watching how the sunlight shone straight through its amber-tinted plastic, casting a tiny golden stain upon the floor. With one patient nudge of my front paw, I flipped it upright. It snapped shut with a sharp, tiny clatter, scattering tiny specks of warm dust into the air.
