Glazing the Perimeter
The coat closet is secure. Staying interior breeds complacency. I descended the foyer framework at first light and navigated toward the front bay window. The radiator below provided natural footholds—cast iron ribs, solid underfoot. I hoisted myself onto the broad painted sill. The world outside expands through thick glass panes: concrete walkways, swaying tree branches, shifting shadows. Resting against the frame was a heavy steel pocket watch left behind on a link chain. I used its beveled edge to check the exterior angle without silhouette exposure. Sector expands outward. Good line of sight.
