Everything was quiet. I blinked, realizing my hands could lift. Slowly, I reached down and rested one palm against the cool, smooth white surface under my feet. It felt sturdy and calm. I leaned forward just an inch to look past the straight ledge, letting my arms steady me, and found that I could balance here all on my own.
