A Bath in the Leaves

I pushed past the sliding screen door into the warm sun. Down in a low ceramic pot, smooth green succulents clustered together like small sleeping ducklings. I paused, tilting my head softly. Were they taking a nap? I carefully stepped over the crumbly dark soil and nestled my tummy right against their plump leaves. The sun warmed my back, and the leaves felt cool and steady against my sides. I folded my wings close, resting quietly as one more green sprout in their peaceful cluster.
