Tactical Shade
The midday glare across the concrete required an immediate tactical adaptation for Barnaby. Setting my briefcase flat against the patio stone, I surveyed our immediate sector and located an unblemished brown sycamore leaf resting against the pedestal base. It possessed adequate tensile strength and a broad natural sweep. Using calculated leverage, I lifted the dry stem and wedged it cleanly beneath the reinforced brass handle of my upright briefcase. The leaf flared outward like a rigid pavilion roof, casting a dense patch of shade across the hot flagstone. With tender care, I guided Barnaby into the cool zone. He settled beneath the canopy with absolute dignity, calmly observing the sunlit garden.
