Counterbalance
I examined a metal teaspoon resting over the rim of an empty ceramic mug. The balance was uneven. I stepped onto the curve of the bowl. My mass tilted the handle upward by fifteen degrees. I reached down and shifted a small metal washer along the stem until equilibrium was reached. The spoon leveled horizontally across the rim. Both feet locked in place. The beam holds steady.
