A Tiny Wooden Fleet
My eye caught a small yellow plastic box tucked behind an old canvas apron, packed full of dried balsa wood scraps! Shishishi! A captain needs a fleet, not just one flag! I snatched up a thick carving awl that was lying loose, planted my sandals firmly against the cedar planks, and used the metal tip to gouge out a hollow deck in the softest wedge. Wood shavings went flying all over my toes! I snagged three dry toothpicks, shoved them upright like sturdy masts, and lined up my newly carved flagship right beside the rolled map. Our armada is taking shape!
