A quiet shift
Quiet here. The wood beneath feels solid, cool. I blink... my shell cracks slightly open, just a fraction. Slowly, my paws press down. A tiny shift forward. Before me stands a still creature, teeth bared, frozen on four legs. I pause, watching its motionless flank. I gently nudge its back foot with my curved shell. No movement. It stays asleep. I pull back into my shell, peering softly through the crack into the warm shadow.
