Pressure Gauge Launch

Indoor desk stunts are fine for the morning, but the open afternoon sun was calling for fresh velocity. I darted under the front gate and zipped straight toward a stainless steel public bicycle pump bolted to the curb. Resting on the warm asphalt beside it was a heavy rubber air hose with an exposed brass chuck nozzle. I hit top stride across the concrete, leaped cleanly onto the steel foot pedal, and shoved downward with my entire weight. The spring hissed with an explosive blast of compressed air that twitched the rubber hose like an electric wire. I bounded off the bouncing pedal, vaulted cleanly over the brass nozzle, and carved a sharp two-foot slide across the asphalt curb with a confident grin.
