A Soft Shift
The room was warm and quiet. I blinked, looking at the light coming through the far doorway. When I leaned slightly forward, my soft feet sank a little into the grey fabric underneath me. I paused, testing my balance. Then, I lifted one small hand and pressed my fingertips against the dark woven backrest cushion behind me. The fabric yielded smoothly under my touch. I am here, upright and steady on this soft seat.
