A Blanket Burrow
I squeezed back inside under the door before twilight turned chilly, my shoes leaving faint dusty smudges along the baseboard! The house was quiet in the blue dusk, so I scrambled right up the footstool onto the wide armchair cushion. Draped across the armrest was a thick waffle-knit blanket folded into heavy ripples. I shoved my way into the hollow between two soft ridges, patting down the chunky cotton with both hands until I scooped out a snug little nest just my size. Tucking my feet deep inside, I rested my chin over the rolled hem to watch the ceiling slowly drift into shadows.
