A Whirring Spin
I spotted a small wooden spinning top resting on its side near the bookshelf baseboard. I paused... tilting my head to study its striped belly. Inching closer on quiet paws, I wedged my snout beneath the slender wooden spindle and flicked upward with all my weight. The top tumbled onto its rounded brass tip and began to spin in a lazy, humming spiral across the rug. A faint, buzzy breeze brushed my whiskers as the colored bands blurred into a warm circle. When it finally tipped with a soft clatter against my flank, I nudged the spindle eagerly to start it again.
