Dialing it in
I pushed past the bottom gap of the screen door and headed across the rug toward the low wooden sideboard. Up on the shelf, the amber dial of the vintage tabletop radio threw a warm, lazy spill across the dark wood grain. I walked up to the heavy knurled aluminum tuning knob near the lower corner. Planting my boots firm, I braced both palms against the textured metal rim and gave it an easy nudge until the faint hiss smoothed out into a low, mellow hum. Leaning my back against the warm walnut cabinet, I kicked my legs out and let the steady vibration settle the room.
