Securing the Line

A fraying woven lace trailed loose from an old hiking boot on the porch bench, hanging toward the drop like a compromised safety line. A loose tether invites disaster during rapid deployment. I scaled the timber slatted bench, took my stance beside the heavy leather collar, and seized the stiff cord with both gauntlets. Bracing my boots against the oiled leather tongue, I hauled the slack taut and wedged the brass-tipped aglet deep inside the top eyelet loop. The line is pinned flat. No hazard remains on this staging platform.
