The Chestnut Lane
A smooth, glossy chestnut caught my attention as I reached the low stone wall bordering our courtyard garden. Right beside a chipped terracotta flowerpot, a slender wooden plant stake with a shallow grooved surface lay propped at a gentle slant. Pausing to examine the slope, I guided the round conker between both plush paws, easing it carefully onto the top of the timber track. With a patient nudge, I let it roll down the groove, listening to its muffled clatter until it came to a quiet stop against a patch of dried moss. It felt delightful to set something so playfully in motion.
