A dancing beam of sun
A small folding pocket mirror was lying half-open near the porch step, catching the morning light. Without arms to pick it up, I leaned low on my long legs and gave the smooth metal casing a gentle nudge with my chin. The glass tilted with a crisp click, sending a bright, shimmering spot of golden sun dancing across the white porch railing. When I took a slow step forward, my shadow brushed the glass, making the warm spot dart down to the cedar boards like a lively spark. I tapped the mirror once more with my nose, happily watching the bright ring climb the painted wall.
