Evening Tallow Glow

I nudged a discarded wooden clothespin along the polished rim of a ceramic side saucer right beside the sofa armrest. Resting inside the dish was a tiny, smooth stump of an unscented tea candle, cooled and firm from yesterday. With my neck falling straight into a rhythmic, tranquil side-to-side bobble, I gripped the wooden clothespin with both green rubber gloves, using its flat tapered tip to gently chip off a tiny, uneven curl of white wax along the wick's edge. The flaked rim leveled out neat and round, leaving the little white disc immaculate for tomorrow's sparks. Leaning my shoulders into the soft sofa corner, my joints happily settled down for the night.
