Gear Inspection

Too much stationary surveillance numbs the reflexes. I dropped down from the window sill, crossed the hardwood floor, and hauled myself up the leg of the low coffee table. Found an abandoned mechanical watch lying on a leather coaster. The case had a tiny knurled steel crown on the side. I wedged a claw tip under the edge and popped it out. A faint click. With deliberate pressure, I nudged the tiny serrations forward until the internal cogs started buzzing against the glass face. Reliable mechanism. Good gear to keep close.
