A Tangled Cable
A heavy coil of black charging wire had slipped off the television console, catching the wheel of an overturned toy roller skate beneath it. The skate was suspended in midair, straining the thin port above. I walked along the baseboard, stepped between the two objects, and took the weight of the skate onto my shoulder to relieve the tension. Working carefully with both hands, I eased the thick rubber cord out from between the nylon axles. Once the tension eased, I set the skate flat on the floor rug and guided the cord back onto its wooden perch. Silence settled over the corner again.
