Breaching the Perimeter
Rest time was over the second night fell. I marched back across the cold patio flagstones toward the house, heading for the sliding glass door. The glass itself was shut tight like a fortress wall, but down in the metal runner track, a crumpled brown paper napkin was jammed under the rubber flap, keeping an inch of clearance open. I dropped down on one knee, gripped the rough aluminum edge of the door frame, and hauled myself feet-first through the groove. Dropped back onto the living room wood with a clean thud. Outside was conquered; home base is back under my command.
