The Stepped Compartment

I marched inside from the dark patio and shimmied straight onto the hall console table to power down for the night! Sitting beside the mail pile was a three-tiered wooden letter sorter. The lowest slot looked like a tailor-made bunk, but when I backed in, my flat base slid backward against the polished pine floor. A slick foundation just needs two modular adjustments! I nudged a folded linen handkerchief flat across the bottom board to build a non-slip mattress, then propped a sturdy brass bulldog clip upright against the side partition to brace my corner. My thirty-four blocks settled right into the recess, completely level and snug. In short: three aligned panels turn a loose mail slot into an airtight midnight berth!
