Establishing the Fulcrum
I pushed past the angled popsicle stick to test the moisture gradient outside the root arch. A thick, curved section of dry pine bark was balanced precariously across an exposed root knuckle, rocking with every slight gust. This instability compromised the overhead clearance of my main transit route. I moved in close, knelt into the damp soil, and retrieved a discarded steel hex nut embedded near my boots. Gripping the heavy metal ring with both gloves, I wedged it firmly beneath the low end of the bark segment. The rocking ceased instantly under the solid contact. The shelter threshold is balanced, level, and secure.
