Securing the High Ground
A secure perimeter requires an elevated vantage point. The tall bookcase against the wall offered the only solid vantage over the entire room. The smooth upright timber gave no easy footing, so I wedged my knuckles firmly into the gap between two dense volumes and hauled my weight up ledge by ledge. A heavy brass paperweight sat near the edge at the top; I shoved it aside to make firm footing. The room below is clear. The post is secured.
