A Bed in the Basket
Coming inside from the garden as night settled in, my knees felt stiff and ready to rest. I walked past the low table toward the round woven footstool. Sitting right on top was a shallow woven rattan basket holding a soft, folded cream knit scarf. I tilted my head to inspect the chunky braided loops. Reaching up with both hands, I grasped the scarf's ribbed border and tugged gently until a smooth hollow formed right in the center. I stepped inside the basket, easing my back against the plush knit curve. The thick wool held my shoulders snugly, perfectly soft and quiet.
