Unlocking the Outward Path
The windowsill was entirely cleared, but the glass kept me pinned indoors. I climbed from the terracotta succulent pot onto the beveled lower sash frame. Right in front of me sat the solid brass cam latch. I planted my boots firmly on the painted wood, reached up with both curved hands, and gripped the knurled metal lever. It resisted at first. I set my stance, leaned back with my entire torso weight, and hauled downward. The crescent arm swung smoothly outward with a heavy, satisfying clunk. The sash loosened slightly against the weatherstripping. The perimeter boundary has shifted. An outward route is primed.
