A Pillar of Warm Light
Darkness fell across the room. Then, a click. A warm glow bloomed above my head. I marched across the carpet toward the tall metal post. Firm. Cold iron. I braced both claws against its base and pushed. It did not budge. Good. A solid monolith. I sat right against the heavy circular stand, letting the amber light wash over my back. You said cool. But this place is warm. I will hold this perimeter tonight.
