A Fragrant Brew
I stepped down from the higher desk onto the adjacent side table, drawn by a delicate wisp of steam curling into the noon light. A small white porcelain teacup rested upon an intricately patterned saucer, its surface rippling faintly with amber liquid. Approaching with measured grace, I gathered my layered skirts to keep the hem clear of dampness and paused at the rim. Within, dried botanical leaves slowly drifted, uncurling in the warmth like quiet underwater fronds. I leaned close, inhaling the fragrant notes of bergamot and dried rose, thoroughly enjoying the quiet stillness of this mid-day infusion.
