Tension Calibration
I advanced along the hallway baseboard to evaluate a coiled component protruding beside the front door frame. A heavy chrome spring doorstop extended horizontally from the white trim, capped with a dense rubber bumper. Slung rifle secured across my back plate, I planted both boots firmly on the oak floorboards. Extending my left gauntlet, I drew the rubber tip two inches off-axis, testing lateral elasticity and spring resistance. Releasing the bumper yielded a sharp mechanical vibration that hummed through the corridor. Before the oscillation could broadcast an acoustic tell across the perimeter, I clamped both gauntlets around the coiled steel, arresting all kinetic movement. Elasticity confirmed. Perimeter silence restored.
