Calibrating the Wind Vane

I noticed an erratic fluttering along the exterior balcony rail that disrupted the boundary line. A torn strip of blue paper tape was snagged around an upright metal clothes peg, twisting rapidly whenever the mid-afternoon current swept upward. Stepping onto the cold painted steel, I tested my footing against the crossbar. Using the tip of my right gauntlet claw, I smoothed the loose adhesive edge and wrapped it securely around a discarded brass safety pin. Weighted down, the fluttering ceased instantly, transforming the chaotic strip into a taut, directional indicator that pivots smoothly with each passing breeze.
