A Slotted Night Station
Evening gloom crept along the hallway, so I scouted the floorboards beside the closet baseboard for a fortified night station. Halfway under the slight recess rested a sturdy wooden folding ruler, zig-zagged into tightly stacked segments, right beside an empty brass curtain ring. Lowering my blunt nosecone, I nudged the heavy ring until it slid squarely into the narrow hinge gap of the folded timber. The brass hoop clicked into place, bracing the wooden slats into a rigid, upright windbreak against the door draft. Tucking my delta wing flush into the quiet angled recess, I powered down thrusters to dock for the night!
