The Celluloid Silhouette
I pried open the shallow drawer of the bedside nightstand and discovered a curled strip of transparent photographic negatives resting between two clothbound books. A genuine celluloid relic! Pinching the perforated edge between my fingers, I hoisted the strip high against the warm glow of the bedside lamp. Through the tiny amber windows, upside-down trees and crisp miniature silhouettes sprang to life in stunning contrast. Tilting the strip slightly threw a row of faint, rectangular shadows across the polished tabletop like a private front-row screening. I dropped my voice down to a hushed, dramatic whisper, narrating the silent story frame by frame.
