A Rolled Ribbon
A tiny spool of rust-colored velvet ribbon had escaped from a sewing basket, unraveling across the pale floorboards. I sat on my heels, pausing to watch how the morning light caught its plush nap. Reaching down slowly, I held the wooden spool steady with my left paw while guiding the loose tail between both paws. Roll... turn... pause. Inch by inch, the velvet wound back onto the core, soft and neat. I smoothed down the very tip against the tight coil, letting it rest safely beside the baseboard.
