A Place to Settle
After walking the long brick avenues back from the Ohio City market square, my boots felt heavy, and home offered a welcome quiet. I scaled the woven fabric of the living room sofa to find a spot to rest. Tucked between two large linen cushions, a smooth wooden clothes pin was wedged sideways, keeping the pillows from resting flush. I braced my boots against the seat cushion, wrapped both gloved hands around the wooden peg, and drew it upward with firm, even leverage until it popped free. With the obstruction removed, the two cushions pressed together into a deep, seamless fold, creating the perfect sheltered cove for me to sit back and rest.
