The commander's signal

The towering metal warrior waits for the signal. The operator is 1st squad leader from 1st platoon. They were handpicked by the elite task force commander to lead the assault on the enemy encampment. The commander decided not only to assign the squad to this mission but to personally lead them. So he took command of his 1st fireteam and led them to an objective point to begin the assault. Phase 1 was to assemble just outside the enemy's encampment. Phase 2 was to initiate contact when either the commander gave the order to open fire or the enemy preemptively discovered them. THAT was the signal for everyone else to do the same. So the leader and the squad waited patiently for one or the other to happen. The SL was armed with rocket pods on the mech's shins while also armed with standard weaponry to provide covering or suppressive fire to the rest of the unit. Deciding to tag along with 3rd fireteam as the fifth member and mirroring the commander's movements on the opposite side of their line, the SL ordered the 2nd fireteam to remain in the middle to provide support for both fireteams. A firefight was about to start.
