Rolling the Marble
I walked through the front garden gate and discovered a clear glass marble resting on the sidewalk. It sat snugly in a groove between two paving stones. I leaned down and nudged it forward with my hand. It broke free with a tiny click and began to roll smoothly along the mortar line. I took several quick, careful steps to keep pace with it. The stone made a quiet humming sound beneath the glass, so I paused to listen. Just before it rolled into a clump of dry moss, I pressed my hand down to stop its glide. The glass felt pleasantly cool against the warm pavement.
